Purpose of the Job
We are seeking an experienced fine art framing Finishes Technician to join the team within our workshop in De Beauvoir (N1). We produce high quality bespoke conservation frames for galleries, museums and private clients and are seeking to add an experienced freelance Finisher to our pool of framing technicians from January 2021.
The Finishes Technician role will be required to act as one of our primary finishes representatives for individual jobs and also for the company.
You will assist with FRAME London’s research and design, relating to all elements of bespoke frame finishing, especially advising on creative solutions, use of equipment and industry-standard materials
You will assist with the standardisation of procedures pertaining to the improvement of workflow, including stock control, techniques and processes,
You would be joining the Frame London team during an exciting period of expansion and development, and we are looking for technicians who are innovative, motivated and committed to producing frames of exceptional quality.
Dedicated technicians should have at least 3 years direct experience of high-end contemporary frame finishing in a workshop environment.
 Main Activities/Responsibilities
Working with the team in the fabrication department, with an emphasis on paint and stain finishes.
Technicians should have excellent knowledge and experience of working with variety of woods, and understanding their individual qualities. They should have an expert knowledge of museum-standard conservation-grade materials, in particular relating to fabrication and finishing methods. This should include surface preparation, priming, top coating, hand-staining, painting, and waxing as well as being able to spray frames to an extremely high standard of finish.
Technicians should be able to use all basic finishing equipment, including a high level of experience working within a spray booth, and should have at least 3 years practise of high-end finishing skills. They should have an excellent knowledge of surface preparation, priming and top coating.
Technicians should also have a fully developed understanding of all relevant health and safety issues, including COSHH, and be proficient in the operation of all spray and finishing equipment as well as all hand-held tools and PPE.
 Person Specification
High-end frame finishing experience (sprays, hand-painted, stains, waxes): 3 years
Contemporary Fine Art picture framing: 3 years
Ability to work accurately and to extremely high standards
Methodical approach to problem solving
Highly developed eye for detail
Excellent time management skills
Experience with traditional framing and finishing skills
Additional skills would include gesso and gilding

10am – 6pm, unless otherwise requested.
