It’s the sense of guardianship for a world class art collection

It’s working with a shared and unique purpose, and it’s caring for and presenting one of the world’s largest art collections. This is what makes working for the Royal Collection Trust so different.

In terms of both quality and diversity, the Royal Collection is breath-taking. As an Art Handler, you’ll plan and co-ordinate the packing, handling, transport and storage of artworks across the Royal Residencies and associated locations.

Key responsibilities:

Liaising with colleagues across the organisation, you’ll assist with the art storage and art logistics aspect of our operation, based primarily in Windsor but with the requirement to travel
You’ll make sure all artworks are stored, handled, packed, transported and installed correctly and to the standard the Collection requires
You’ll provide support to the inventory team who keep overall track of all Collection items
You’ll also be involved in various projects, such as commercial storage, improving storage facilities for specific Collection areas and when required, exhibition installations.
Working across the Decorative Arts, Pictures, Works on Paper, Photographs, Archives and Library , you’ll support and work collaboratively with Curatorial and Conservation colleagues to protect and preserve every Collection item.
Drawing on your expertise, you’ll also provide oversight of external contractors, ensuring the exceptional standards of Collection handling and storage is met at all times.
Every day, like every item, will present a different challenge and will stretch you. Knowing you’re enabling our Collection to be admired by a huge audience will be your biggest reward.

Essential Criteria

With proven experience in art handling, ideally with decorative art, paintings and works on paper and looking to further develop your skills, you're exactly who we’re looking for.
You’ll have a good understanding of conservation requirements, as well as knowledge of methods of installing and transporting historic objects, and the materials and equipment required. Good manual handling skills will also be important.
Experience working with inventory systems and a good understanding of how storage management and logistics work would be an asset.
Exceptional attention to detail, along with a methodical approach to handling data will be key to your success.
Organised and flexible in your approach, you’ll be adept in managing your time and prioritising a varied workload in order to meet tight deadlines. An effective communicator, you’ll enjoy collaborating with internal colleagues who are specialists in their own field, as well as a range of external organisations.
Above all, you’ll be eager to expand the scope of your knowledge and be driven to maintain the very highest standards of care in all that you do.
