Job Title: Fabrication Technician
Department: Workshop
Reports To: Workshop Manager
Contract: Full-time (40 hours/week, flexibility required)
Location: Hackney, London
Salary: Competitive: dependant on experience
Main Purpose of the Role:
The Fabrication Technician is responsible for the production of bespoke, museum-standard frames in our busy London workshop. The role involves working closely with the Production Manager and other departments to ensure each frame is fabricated to the highest standards of craftsmanship, care, and precision.
This role acts as a key representative of the company’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction and requires someone with both technical skill and a collaborative mindset.

Key Responsibilities:
Fabricate a wide range of frame styles using a variety of woods and finishes
Perform cutting, joining, routing, sanding, filling, and hand staining to museum and gallery standards.
Finishing of frames - including this could include surface preparation, priming, top coating, and hand-staining, painting, and waxing as well as being able to spray frames to an extremely high standard of finish.
Apply expert knowledge of conservation-grade materials in all fabrication work
Ensure all work meets client specifications and internal quality standards
Offer technical insight to help realise creative designs
Update internal systems (I-Framer, job boards) with job progress
Liaise with other departments to ensure a smooth production workflow
Adhere to all health and safety policies and workshop best practices
Identify opportunities to improve fabrication processes and standards
Maintain a responsible and professional attitude at all times, representing Frame London positively.
Work Environment & Challenges
The workshop is fast-paced and constantly evolving; strong time management is essential.
Occasional overtime, evening, and weekend work may be required to meet deadlines.
A flexible, proactive approach is crucial to accommodate project timelines.
While primarily focused on fabrication, support in finishing tasks will also be required
Key Working Relationships
Reports to: Workshop Manager
Liaises with: Workshop Manager, Directors, Finishing and Fitting Teams
Internal stakeholders: Entire production team across fabrication, fitting, and mounting
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in contemporary fine art picture framing or joinery
Skilled in fabrication techniques including cutting, joining, sanding, and staining
Knowledge of health & safety protocols in a workshop environment
Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship
Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach
Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines
Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Interpersonal Skills
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
A collaborative team player with initiative and self-motivation
Desirable Skills & Experience
Previous experience in galleries, artist studios, or another bespoke framing company
Familiarity with conservation-grade materials and techniques.
Knowledge of the contemporary art world and framing standards for museums.
Finishing and/or spraying experience
Education & Qualifications
Essential: Good general education (GCSEs/O Levels or equivalent)
Desirable: Qualifications in design, frame making, or practical art handling
