Five historic Grade II listed buildings will provide a variety of exhibition spaces, viewing rooms, permanent offices, hot desking, art storage as well as technical and logistical support.

Purpose of the Post:
The Senior Art Technician and Art Storage Co-Ordinator supports the Exhibition Services team with logistics, art storage and art handling at Cromwell Place. The post holder works alongside the Junior Art Technician to look after departmental systems, and report into the Exhibitions Manager. This includes working closely with Cromwell Place Members, ensuring that an outstanding five-star service is delivered and carried out across all exhibition services.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Logistics, art storage and art handling
- Work closely with the Exhibitions Manager to manage artworks lists, exhibition planning and onsite and offsite storage requirements.
- Support the Exhibitions Manager with managing a team of technicians and maintenance / decorators.
- Liaise with Cromwell Place’s art shippers and shipping and logistics partners
- Manage and optimise full gallery logistics cycle (deliveries, art handling, installation and dismantling of exhibitions, specialist lighting and all additional services)
- Plan, schedule and oversee all maintenance / decorating projects within the galleries to maintain pristine gallery appearance and overall cleanliness
- Responsible for cleanliness and orderliness of the art storage and logistics workshop
- Use Cromwell Place’s inventory management system to track and record all artwork movements, including location, customs status and artwork details
- Ensure best practice for instal and de-instal, via knowledge of art handling techniques
- Manage and maintain ‘real time’ reporting of all deliveries and collections, communicating these to the wider team through the relevant calendars, producing release notes for all works being collected / delivered and updating art storage work sheet to reflect all daily collections and deliveries
- Coordinating deliveries of artworks for exhibitions
- Interact positively and communicate diplomatically with all members, colleagues and vendors
- Responsible for technician equipment and maintenance, including light stock (ensure adequate equipment is sourced, maintain in good functioning order, keep to annual budget, suggest improvements where and when needed to the ES Manager)
- Maintaining safe and proper art handling practices and ensuring these are being executed at all times by the team of technicians.

Person Specification:
Essential:
- At least two years’ experience working as a fine art technician in a gallery, museum or similar organisation
- Understanding of and ability to articulate art handling best practices for packing/crating, transportation/shipping, and installation
- Experience painting and decorating
- Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure and within a growing art organisation
Desirable:
- BA or higher in Art History and/or Arts Administration
- Proficiency using inventory management system. The company used Sales Force
- Previous work in grade II listed buildings
- Knowledge of HMRC customs procedures
Conditions of Work:
Permanent contract
Salary: £33,000-£37,000
Hours of work: 42.5 hours per week (with 1 hour for lunch each day)
Sunday and public holidays rota work is required, depending on exhibition programme requirements.
Probation period: 3 months
Notice period: 2 months in writing on either side following successful probationary period
