We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, dynamic, highly motivated and outcome-focused person to work with our Making technical support team at the Royal College of Art. This team delivers a wide variety of making activities in bench, wood, metal, and plastics across campuses. These are areas where students are sketch making, prototyping, assembling, experimenting and developing physical, 3-dimensional concepts using materials such as wood, metal and plastic.
As a Making Specialist Technical Instructor:
Take a lead in the provision of technical assistance, guidance and instruction to students and staff.
Support the growth of bench, wood, and metal based making areas that allow students to explore and develop work within the experimental stages of their research.
Continual learning as part of a dynamic team.
Assist students and staff in problem solving and finding technical solutions.
Maintain specialist equipment and applicable health and safety accurate records.
Support College Teaching, Learning, Research activity as appropriate for the role.
What you will need to have:
Significant, highly skilled, specialist knowledge of and experience with a variety of processes for working with wood, metal and plastics.
Experience of planning and delivering in person technical workshops.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
The ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem solving skills.
Excellent user focus and a flexible approach.
Experience of creating online learning materials is essential.
Knowledge of Health and Safety issues and Risk Assessment procedures
