7 December 2021, 01:00:00
The purpose of this role is to lead all technical planning for Jerwood Arts’ 2022 exhibition programme at Jerwood Space in London. During this period, you will play a key part in our mission to support early-career artists to make and show new work at a pivotal moment in their practice. As Technical Manager, you will be an experienced art technician who has significant experience project managing installations in a gallery or similar environment. You will be trained in art handling and packing works, with a proactive approach to problem solving and advising on best practice. You will be confident planning the installation, maintenance and deinstallation of exhibitions, and have proven experience managing a team of technicians to deliver projects within set budgets and timeframes. A good knowledge of working to security and health & safety procedures will be required and some experience developing risk assessments and method statements to ensure safe working conditions during installations. An ideal candidate will also have experience working directly with artists to install new work and will have skills in fabrication (benches, plinths, and temporary walls), AV set ups and creating layouts in modelling software like Sketch Up. You will use your skills and knowledge to assemble and lead a small team of freelance technicians and Jerwood Arts staff to deliver three exhibitions during 2022, working alongside the Head of Visual Arts and Visual Arts Programme Manager at Jerwood Arts.
